Original Medicare includes Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance).
• If you want drug coverage, you can join a separate Medicare drug coverage (Part D) plan.
• To help pay your out-of-pocket costs in Original Medicare (like your deductible and 20% coinsurance), you can also shop for and buy supplemental coverage (a Medigap policy).
Medicare Advantage is a Medicare-approved plan from a private company that offers an alternative to Original Medicare. These “bundled” plans include Part A, Part B, and usually Part D.
• Some plans may have lower out-of-pocket costs than Original Medicare.
• Some plans offer benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t, like vision, hearing, dental, and more.
Medicare has four parts:
Part A: Hospital Insurance, which covers inpatient hospital stays, hospice care, and some skilled nursing care.
Part B: Medical Insurance, which covers outpatient medical care, doctor visits, and preventive services like flu shots.
Part C: Medicare Advantage, which is an alternative to Parts A and B that bundles several coverage types.
Part D: Prescription Drug Benefit, which provides coverage for prescription drugs
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover dental or vision care. However, Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) often include some coverage for dental and vision. We will do everything we can to find you a plan that covers your needs!
You can change your Medicare plan during certain periods. These periods include:
Medicare Open Enrollment Period: This period is from October 15 to December 7. This is when most people make changes to their plan if needed, to prepare for the upcoming year.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period: This period is from January 1 to March 31. During this time, you can switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare.
Medicare Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs): These periods allow you to make changes at other times of the year depending on your circumstances. You can make changes during SEPs if you experience certain life events, like moving or losing other coverage.
